While the game so far sounds like any average RPG, the twist comes in the form of survival horror elements with the player having to balance various needs of their characters such as stress, light, and hunger and keep them well prepared for every dungeon. It is up to the player to prepare them and take them through a series of dungeons and defeat various creatures and obtain priceless treasures. The game revolves around the player leading a party of four adventurers, each having their own class and unique characteristics and abilities. The game was created by Red Hook Studios in collaboration with Sickhead Games and released way back in February 2015 to positive reception by both fans and critics alike. Its not for everyone though.ĮDIT/PS: All these games run on my rig in Windows 10 enviroment just fine.Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike set in a Lovecraftian universe that perfectly mixes turn-based combat, fantasy RPG elements, and survival horror. TL/DR: XCOM 1 with its Expansion and the LONG WAR modification is going to provide the most depth, challenge, and hours of entertainment. Look into that option to see if its your kind of game. I can honestly say Long War is the best gaming experience I've had. It is a purchase I regret however and can't recommend it when LONG WAR is utterly superior. Given time and some actual developer and community support it has the potential to eventually be a good/great game. I don't recommend XCOM 2, I think as of yet it is an underdeveloped and shallow shell of XCOM 1 LONG WAR. I've had decent and casual fun out of Darkest dungeon and by all means am happy with my purchase, but its not of the same calibur as XCOM 1. I have gotten a ridiculous number of hours and the best moments of TBS and tactical gaming ever out of the Long War mod. The base game and expansion on its own is pretty good, but long war perfects the gameplay and ups the good aspects of tactical gaming to a whole other level.ĭarkest dungeon is cheap and fun enough, but shallow. It (LONG WAR) might not be for everyone, however if you like depth and challenge it is damned beatiful. The best TBS/Tactical game is hands down XCOM (1) with its expansion and the Long War modification.
